Summary/Abstract: Could anyone deny that it is a fabric of emotions and feelings that generates reli-gious beliefs? We are prone to comfortable readings of ritualized visual expressions of miracu-lous events. And yet despite this we can readily detect their emotional substance, the fact that we are faced with hues of various emotions reenacted or enriched. Religious painters in the Romanian Principalities (17th to 19th c.) have sufficient tools to help us for this purpose. They can reconstruct scenes, modify their material support, serialize or compact episodes. This article investigates such techniques from the vantage of visual semiotics.
