Summary/Abstract: The paper details the functions of the DA-construction in modern Bulgarian and the subjunctive mood in modern Russian. The functional proximity of these forms is stemmed from the unreality in their meanings. The areas of similarity and difference between the two languages are described for the autonomous uses as well as for the uses in subordinate clauses.
