Transformations of precedent statements as a means of conveying expressive-evaluative meanings in newspaper headlines

Summary/Abstract: The paper explores the usage of transformations of the precedent statements in contemporary Russian newspaper headlines. The different types of structural and semantic changes of the precedent statements are studied. The most common type of transformation is replacing one component with anfother in order to refer to the current events or facts which are discussed in the artcle itself. Journalists often use more than a few techniques to transform precedent texts to give them an original sounding in newspaper headlines.
