Phenomena of lexical blending and semasiological/morfosyntactic interference in the Arvanitika idioms in Greece and in the so-called region of “Albanian hellenophony”

Summary/Abstract: Iteresting phenomena of lexical blending and semasiological/ morphosyntactic interference are observed in the Albanian idioms in Greece (Arvanitika) and in the so-called region of “Albanian hellenophony” (South Albania, Epirus), which are due to the intense and long-lasting linguistic contacts between the Albanian and the Greek languages. The present paper explores rich and authentic resources which confirm that the coexistence of elements originating from both languages “...may take two different forms: either the new and the old category are combined and cooccur in the same construction, thus resulting in double marking; or the two coexist as alternative constructions available to speakers of the replica language.
