Summary/Abstract: The article analyses two trends in the discourse of illness and death present in the Ukrainian popular novel "Anemona’s Villa" by Halyna Petrosaniak (2021). The first trend medicalizes illness and death and is associated with practices of marginalization and exclusion of terminally ill people, while the second one postulates humanistic ideas resulting from the assumptions of the hospice movement and palliative care, putting emphasis on the importance of co-presence with a dying person and their right not to isolate themselves from society.
