Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is an analysis of the carnival scenario in the novel The Pest by Valery Shevchuk. The carnival scenario is defined as a scheme analogical to the rites of passage and associated with the category of the sacred. It relies on the theory of Roger Caillois who analyzed the structural similarities between the sacred and the extreme experiences (like war).
