Summary/Abstract: Home – one of the key concepts of culture – occupies an important place in the prose of a Ukrainian writer Walery Shevchuk. Literary topos of home appears in almost all his novels. The image of home in Shevchuk’s works symbolizes the universe of spiritual, ethical and moral values. It is understood in various ways: as a “promised land” where a hero goes, as a “lost paradise”, as an enclave of peace and security, as a man-made temple, or as a space of painful negative memories, In all of these ways there is a symbol of man, his inner world. In this text I analyze the symbol of home in two novels: “House on the Hill” and “Specter of the Dead House”.
