Summary/Abstract: Twang is an important technique of modern vocal intonation, widespread in rock, pop and jazz (American, European) music. The twang technique is specific to musicians who speak English natively, for this reason it is frequently used by American or English performers. Like many other vocal techniques cultivated in modern pop music (eg belting), twang is historically and culturally linked to English orthography, the principles of pronunciation of poetic text in English. At the same time, according to American teachers, this procedure is based on the typical speaking style of the southern states of the USA, which is often found in the vocal practice of the country style (country music). Practiced today by many performers of modern music, the twang technique widens the range of the voice, enriches it with natural harmonics, giving it a special sonority. In practice, multiple exercises are used for the conscious use of the twang technique. For example, the pronunciation of various syllables that begin with nasal consonants – M and N. As for the laryngeal twang, to develop this technique the performer should focus on the pronunciation of the English R sound and try to sing the vowels in its position.
