Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the song My Funny Valentine, a work that has become one of the classic standards used by jazz performers for processing or implementation in individual work, in improvisation or in the studio. Improvisation as a method of expression determines the general existence of jazz music, including jazz standards, which musicians can perform over the years, but each time in a different way. My Funny Valentine is the chorus of the song from the 1937 musical Babes in Arms by Richard Rodgers and Lawrence Hart. This song has become a well-known jazz standard and for almost 100 years has attracted the attention of singers and instrumentalists of various styles, who have managed to present a wide range of melodic development techniques: harmonic figuration, splitting a monophonic melody into two, ornamentation rich, etc. For analytical purposes, I researched three interpretation versions of the composition My Funny Valentine, by outstanding jazz vocalists: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn. These recordings were made in different years and are distinguished by an individual approach to sound emission, phrasing, articulation, ways of processing melodic and rhythmic material. An important role resides in the individuality of perception and assimilation of improvisation itself.
