PRIMARY ELECTIONS AS A METHOD OF INTER-PARTY SELECTION OF CANDIDATES IN ELECTIONS TO THE SEJM OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND: THE CASE OF NEW HOPE

Summary/Abstract: Intra-party selection of candidates can take many forms. Primaries should be considered themost democratic and open way to nominate candidates. Political parties rarely choose to organizeprimaries, especially in parliamentary elections. New Hope decided to take this step. This party isa part of a broader formation (Confederation of Freedom and Independence) which is representedin the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. During the primaries, there were selected candidates whowere to receive first places on the electoral lists in particular electoral districts in the electionsto the first chamber of the Polish parliament. The text shows methods of inter-party selection ofcandidates and presents the assumptions and process of the New Hope primaries.
