Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this text is showing of the constitutional arrangements in Gibraltar. Gibraltar is the British Overseas Territory. However, it is worth paying attention that the Gibraltar Constitution 2006 gives the people of Gibraltar that degree of self-government which is compatible with the British sovereignty of Gibraltar. The sovereignty of Gibraltar is exercised by the Queen of Great Britain. The Governor exercises power on behalf of the Queen and he is appointed by Her Majesty. The Governor is responsible, inter alia, for defence and foreign affairs. Legislative power rests with the Queen of Britain and the unicameral legislative assembly (the Gibraltar Parliament). Executive power is exercised by the government of Gibraltar, consisting of the Council of Ministers and the Queen represented by the Governor. Even though Gibraltar is a dependent territory, it enjoys a great deal of autonomy, as evidenced by the functioning of the Gibraltar Parliament, the Council of Ministers and the independent judiciary.
