Education of Members of the Police Force in the Lifelong Training System at the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava, Slovak Republic

Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on selected types of lifelong training provided at the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava,which provides university education in the field of Security Sciences. Furthermore, it addresses educational activities in the system of lifelong training for members of the Slovak Police Force and other security services, while emphasising two types of training,namely Specialised Police Training Course and Police Management Training Course. These courses have a long tradition and a strong place in the police education system. The main mission of the lifelong training system is to create basic prerequisites forefficient and high quality performance of managerial functions at various levels of police management. The purpose of individual forms of lifelong learning is to expand and provide the latest theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills necessary for the position held by members of the Police Force. The paper aims to point out the need to obtain a given education for the performance of certain functions in the Police Force, to bring closer the relevant legislation and to familiarise with the content of the provided training, including legal subjects, or selected topics from the field of law. The ambition of the paper is to provide informative data on the number of lifelong training graduates and to emphasise the importance and necessity of lifelong training for members of the Police Force in the Slovak Republic.
