Biomass as energy source in Poland.

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issues related to the use of biomass, i.e. biological material from living (or recently living) organisms. The paper begins with an analysis of the legal framework (at both European and national levels) which governs the use of biomass. The author also reviews the subsidies directed at supporting the biomass production. In the next sections she examines the challenges and prospects for the further development and popularization of biomass as a renewable source of energy in Poland.
