Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the study was to develop the concept of measuringsustainable local development and to identify and assess its level using the counties in Poland’sMasovian Voivodeship as a case study. The paper consists of a theoretical and empiricalpart. The theoretical section reviews existing literature on sustainable development whilethe empirical part presents the level and changes in the sustainable development of the selectedcounties. The study estimated the level and changes in three components of sustainabledevelopment: economic, social, and ecological, as well as the degree of balance betweenthem. The research covered 42 counties of the Masovian Voivodeship in 2006 and 2018,employing 35 primary variables derived from the Local Data Bank of the Statistics Poland.The main research methods were factor analysis and the ranking method. The study foundthat the counties with the highest level of sustainable development were those located within70 km of Warsaw. In contrast, the counties in the eastern and southern parts of the MasovianVoivodeship had the lowest levels of development.
