Summary/Abstract: The author argues that there is a need to re-think the idea of “vision as method”based on the recent book published in Poland in 2023: Polska wieś 2044. Wizja rozwoju, editedby M. Halamska, M. Kłodziński and M. Stanny. It is showed that “vision as a method” is a moreuseful than “utopia as a method” concept, developed recently in 2016 by M. Shucksmithin his article “Re-imaging the rural: From rural idyll to good countryside”. It is based, contrary to the “utopia as a method”, on the ideas of C.W. Mills’ “sociological imagination”,R.K. Merton’s perspective of “self-fulfilling prophecy” as well as K. Lewin’s “field theory”.Therefore the brief analysis of basic messages contained in the Polska wieś 2044. Wizjarozwoju book as founded on the idea of “sociological imagination” has been presented. Moreover, the argument that main messages from the book should be distributed amongvarious social actors in order to put them on the path of “self-fulfilling prophecies” has beendeveloped. Finally, the results of the deliberation, i.e. the possible reconciliation of positionsmight have been considered, according to the “field theory” message, as relatively stablesolutions of analysed social problems.
