Aspects regarding the state of mind of Timiș County’s population in the years 1987-1988

Summary/Abstract: Against the background of the problems faced by the Romanian economy in the period 1980-1989, the standard of living of the population fell more and more. In the present paper we intend to analyze the state of mind of the inhabitants of Timiș County, and in this sense we researched the archival fond of the Timiș County Committee of the Romanian Communist Party from that period. From the analyzed reports, emerges the dissatisfaction of the population against the shortage of basic food, the lack of hot water, the heat from homes, the frequent power outages. At the same time, the workers suffered salary penalties, due to factors that did not depend on them and in rural areas the peasants were receiving late the rights due to their work. All these causes, to which they were added other absurd measures taken by the political leadership of the country, as well as some abuses or acts of corruption of the authorities created a state of growing discontent among the majority of the population in Timiș County in the last years of the communist regime.
