Summary/Abstract: The article presents borrowings from the Ukrainian language used in newspaper texts related to the conflict in Donbas. The analysis is based on articles from Russian newspapers of different ideological orientation: “Kommersant”, “Izvestia”, “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, “Moskovsky Komsomolets”, “Novaya Gazeta”, “New Region 2” published from 2014 to 2021. The growth of Russian media’s interest in Ukraine at that time was caused by numerous factors, in particular the series of disorders on Maidan Nezalezhnosti that began back in 2013, the changeof authority, the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and the ongoing conflict in Donbas. The study identifies the main reasons for the use of Ukrainianisms in the texts of theRussian press, presents the thematic typology of the above borrowings and the functions they perform. Ukrainisms are also studied as a means of expressing assessment and as markersindicating the national and cultural specificity of the conflict.
