Summary/Abstract: This paper reviews the biblical-moral assessment of alcoholism and the teaching of the Catholic Church about this addiction. The Bible does not forbid alcohol, but contains lots of warnings about how tempting and dangerous it is to get involved with alcohol. Warns that alcohol can hinder moral discernment. Although the Catholic Catechism does not directly ban alcohol consumption, it does advocate temperance, advising Catholics to avoid every kind of excess, including alcohol abuse. Explain that abuse of alcohol detach the person from his or her authentic self, and from the ultimate goal. Alcoholism leads to a variety of problems of a social, psychological, moral and medical nature. This is an obstacle to human flourishing at all levels of existence.
