Summary/Abstract: The present study represents a synthesis about the archaeozoological research in Transylvania. Through this analysis, we extracted the data related to the share of domestic and wild mammals within the faunal samples to illustrate the subsistence strategies used by the prehistoric communities in the settlements in the current area of Transylvania. The total number of sites included in the research is 61. We also tried to describe for each stage of the prehistoric era the evolution of strategies for exploiting the paleofauna in a settlement area. Thus, for the Neolithic era we have 16 sites; in the Eneolithic, we have 16 sites and 15 are dated to the Bronze Age. From Hallstatt, we have eight archaeological sites, and seven sites are attributed to the La Tène period. We mentioned the percentage values of the presence of domestic and wild mammals in the fauna sample, and we have illustrated all the information in the form of graphs to help in understanding the role that certain animals had in the diet of prehistoric communities. Where we had additional information about the age of slaughter of the animals, we mentioned them. This study aims to highlight the importance of archaeozoological research on faunal material discovered from archaeological excavations because analysing it provides essential information about human communities in the past.
