Summary/Abstract: Rita Miliūnaitė in her study Lietuvių kalbos gramatikos norminimo pagrindai (2003) (Eng. 'Foundations of Grammatical Norms in Lithuanian') identifies and offers a qualified solution to the problems that are relevant for language standardisation as well as the theory of grammar: language functions and development, variability of grammar, criteria, principles and reasons of setting norms. The study reviews and gives evaluation to the process of standardising Lithuanian grammar in 1930-1990 on the basis of the author's articles in periodic publications; in addition, it also contains a unique analysis of the views of Juozas Balčikonis. The book is a significant contribution into researching language standardisation, norm setting process and its history, a systemic review of individual grammatical phenomena and a theoretical basis for further study of language standardisation.
