Summary/Abstract: Presently, when some research has been done into the language of documents in general and specific features, it becomes very important that synonyms of the term dokumentas (Eng. 'document') as well as terms reffering to types of documents are appropriately used. The present research has been based on a huge amount of data drawn from the corpus of modern Lithuanian and other sources, works on language norm. Arguments are provided and usage cases enumerated in which documents are reffered to as popieriai (Eng. 'papers') (including the meaning of securities). It is also argued against the word tvarka (Eng. 'order') used in administrative language in the meaning of a type of document. Also evaluation is given to the term reikalų raštai (Eng. 'business papers') used mainly in educational publications.
