Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the motivation, origin and formation of the surnames Dula, Dulka, Dulík, or more generally surnames with the base dul-. The most probable interpretation is that they are related to the name of the tree or shrub dula (Cydonia, English quince). However, due to interlingual contacts, they could have been formed from other appellatives or proper names and their onymic motivation could have been different. The author also analyzes these other possibilities.
