Summary/Abstract: One of the key technologies that 5G systems introduce is network virtualization. Network virtualization refers to the separation of network functions from the underlying hardware, allowing for more flexible and scalable network architectures. Network virtualization in 5G allows operators to create networks that are decoupled from each other and optimized for specific applications and services with different QoS for different applications and devices. While virtualizing network functions provides many benefits, including increased flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, it also introduces new security vulnerabilities that network operators must be aware of. The report proposes an approach of the five security layers identified in 5G networks - the physical infrastructure, network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined network controllers (SDN), the new 5G radio, core network systems and the application layer. Each of these layers has different vulnerabilities that can potentially be exploited by attackers to compromise the security of the 5G network. To ensure the security of 5G networks, companies and organizations from different industries must cooperate through standardization bodies and industry forums. This collaboration is necessary to develop and implement security measures that can address vulnerabilities in each of the five security layers. Some of the security measures that can be implemented include multi-level context authentication, cross-security network slicing, hardware-based security solutions, encryption, and intrusion detection and prevention systems.
