Summary/Abstract: Between 1916-1920 in the 160 prisoner camps in Bulgaria some 4950 Romanian prisoners lost their lives. At therequest of Sofia’s community, ”The Society for the Fallen Heroes in the War” founded in 1922 by own funds a Honour cemetery inside the Orthodox Cemetery in Sofia. The amount of 20 000 leva offered by the Romanian community from Sofia served to raise a spectacular monument in the middle of the parcel following the plans of the architect G. Ghiulamila. Every year on the occasion of Heroes Day, the Romanian Embassy in Sofia takes care to organize a ceremony to praise the memory of the Romanian heroes. The religious service is done by priest of the Romanian church in Sofia.
