Summary/Abstract: It is impossible to run a business without raising sources of financing for it, and the use of debt financing allows for faster growth. The subject of this article is the entrepreneur’s responsibility for the debts associated with his or her business, since in Poland, the majority of business entities in operation are just natural persons running a business. It was decided to check what third-party sources of financing are used by individuals running a business, what is the payment morality of such individuals and whether they are aware of their responsibility for business debts. A quantitative survey was conducted using the author’s survey questionnaire in two rounds – the first in October 2016. – January 2017, and the second in the period October-November 2023. Respondents were individuals running a business – 95 people in the first survey and 87 people in the second. Leasing was used most frequently by those surveyed and they intended to use it in the future, while factoring was used least frequently. In second place among the least frequently used in survey two was revolving credit, which was second among the most frequently used in survey one. In survey two, there was an increase in the propensity to use factoring, which moved up to third place from last place. Respondents declared that they were reliable debtors. A large proportion of those surveyed had knowledge of debt liability, but in both surveys, there were those who had no knowledge and were not aware of it.
