Summary/Abstract: The Zenica's Čimburijada represents a decades-long social practice of the citizens of Zenica, which finds its origins in practices related to the beginning of spring, the awakening of nature, and general social practices of socializing in a natural environment. The main characteristic of the Zenica's Čimburijada, on which the element of tradition primarily relies, is the early rising, during which the first meal is prepared, "Čimbur" (a dish made from eggs, nettle or spring onions). Čimburijada represents a traditional, spontaneous gathering of the people of Zenica primarily on the banks of its rivers, but often, depending on other factors, in other circumstances and environments. The development of the city of Zenica during the 20th century, and the changes in the way of life and work of its citizens, resulted in a change in the approach to Čimburijada, which began to receive media attention from the second half of the 20th century. After the war period of the 90s, it received institutional support and a kind of organizational aspect. Through the analysis of sources relevant to the context of the city of Zenica in the 20th century, and based on field research on the development and organization of the Zenica's Čimburijada, this paper will try to show the context in which the Čimburijada and the approach to it changed during the second half of the 20th century, and indicate to the challenges it faces in the 21st century.
