Summary/Abstract: Transition periods evaluated within folklore and the rituals performed during these periods give a idea about the cultural values, life, beliefs, feelings and thoughts of a society. It also helps to understand the characteristic features of the culture of the society in question. Gaziantep, which has a deep-rooted history and a rich culture, has many cultural heritage and continues to preserve its traditional structure to a great extent. The dowry tradition, which is one of these elements, is an important issue in the marriage transition period from the roots of Turkish history. In this context, Gaziantep dowry tradition is a cultural value that carries the past to the future and is kept alive. In this study, a compilation study was carried out by using interview and participant observation techniques as well as written source scanning. As a result of the field research, the rituals performed in Gaziantep dowry ceremonies were identified and their cultural foundations were examined. The data obtained were handled within the framework of functional theory, one of the context-centred folklore theories, and the functions of these rituals were also tried to be revealed. As a result of the study, it was understood that the rituals in dowry ceremonies in Gaziantep show some similarities with the practices in the Turkish geography and Anatolia. At the same time, it is seen that these rituals, which are passed down from generation to generation today, carry the traces of ancient belief systems in their origins. As a result of the study, it was determined that the related rituals still fulfill functions such as entertainment, entertainment, education, culture transfer, support for social institutions and ceremonies.
