The connection of service learning with higher education originated in North America and later spread to Europe. This report aims to acquaint the audience with the concept, its historical development, and the implementation of service-learning under various names in university education as an innovative pedagogical approach. By referencing examples from the USA, France, and Germany, it seeks to create a context for its application in Bulgaria, particularly at the New Bulgarian University. The article explores the integration of service-learning into higher education curricula, emphasizing its role in cultivating transferable skills essential for personal, academic, and professional success.
