Summary/Abstract: Dance, which has a unique place in all civilizations of the world, has been one of the ways of self-expression by human beings. The use of dance in one's daily life comes from an effort to understand and give meaning to oneself. The dance notation system called Labanotation is a system developed as one of these efforts. This study constitutes a part of the large-scale study on Labanotation and Turkish folk dances. In the study, the basic movements of traditional dances, which were determined by different recording and teaching methods, were notated with the Laban dance notation system and recorded in writing, and by this means, it was aimed to preserve and transfer the local dance steps and to introduce them to the field as an overdue teaching method. Ensuring the applicability of the Labanotation system, which is widely used in different dance disciplines in the international community, for our traditional dances will be an important achievement. One of the benefits is that it will be the first and most comprehensive Turkish resource in which traditional dances are recorded and analyzed with the Labanotation system. Undoubtedly, there are a few studies that introduce the system and convey some dance examples, but there is no other study in this context that deals with the basic movements of traditional dances with the Labanotation system. In this article, which is produced from a part of a thesis study that continues within the framework of Istanbul Technical University Graduate Education Institute Performance Department Traditional Dances Master's Program and examines different types of traditional dances within the scope of Labanotation, the basic lower extremity movements of Zeybek dances are discussed. The currently identified basic movement structures and combinations of Zeybek dances, especially the anatomical movement and angulation principle on the basis of the lower extremity, are explained in detail.
