Summary/Abstract: Based on published sources and archival documents as well as specialist research, the author reviews the biography of an activist of thePolish Orthodox Church, Archpriest Seraphim Batorewicz (1905–1960). A graduate of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at theUniversity of Warsaw and a close collaborator of Metropolitan Dionysius in post-war times came to the USSR, where in 1951 wassentenced to 25 years in the prison camp (“lagier”). After the death of Stalin and as a result of radiation sickness in 1957 he was releasedfrom the camp in the Urals. In his last years, he was the priest of the cathedral in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg, Russia) and hada conflict with a representative of the Soviet authorities. It can be said that the fate of the Orthodox priest was typical of a large part ofthe Orthodox clergy of the Second Polish Republic.
