Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article isto investigate the Blok group from the perspective of the avant-garde’s local networks andinternational relations. The starting point for the analysis is the 1st International Exhibitionof Modern Architecture in Warsaw (1926), seen as the culmination of a larger open projectthat had been underway since 1924. Involved in this project, in addition to MieczysławSzczuka and the Blok group, were Wanda Melcer-Rutkowska and Szczęsny Rutkowski; thePolish Artistic Club was involved institutionally. The presentation of modern architecturein Warsaw was linked to the avant-garde’s absence at the International Exhibition of Dec-orative Arts in Paris and to the promotion of Blok in Turkey in connection with the PolishExhibition in Constantinople. An analysis of pertaicular issues of the “Blok” magazine hasrevealed new maps of relationships and a network of translators of the texts published there(Wanda Melcer-Rutkowska, Irena Krzywicka, Maria Stromengerowa, Stanisław Helsztyński,Janina Saloni). Side themes, such as the participation of women writers or the dominanceof the French language in avant-garde relations, and marginalities, such as the financing ofculture or the process of consolidation of the architectural community, have made it possibleto show the Blok group as a whole, in an expanded research perspective.
