Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is twofold. The first, methodological one is to assess the credibility and usefulness of automatic speech emotion recognition (SER) software for media analysis. The empirical case is that of stabbing and subsequent death of, at that time president of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz in 2019. Hence the second goal of the article which is to analyze the event in terms of cultural trauma theory. The main question here is whether media played the role of carrier groups interested in construing Adamowicz’s death as a case for national trauma. The study finds SER software a credible and relevant tool allowing to show that national media were not interested in long term maintaining of trauma in case of Adamowicz’s death.
