Summary/Abstract: In today’s world, characterized by modern technologies and rapid communication, both the practice of letter writing and the anticipation of letters are diminishing. Nevertheless, scientific literature on biography (its understanding and study) emphasizes the value and significance of personal documents, such as letters, diaries, and journals, which provide insight into individual life experiences. This article aims to explore the essence and understanding of letters as family biographical documents. The issues discussed in the text result from biographical research, where one of the research areas was the educational potential of personal memorabilia studied over time. This exploration is particularly related to reflections on “Letters from Siberia” written by Irka A., which belonged to her brother Karol A. The main research questions addressed are: What is the specificity of letters understood as biographical documents, using the example of Irka’s A.’s “Letters from Siberia”? How did Irka A.’s “Letters from Siberia” become a family biographical document? What is the role of her letters in the process of shaping a family biography?
