Summary/Abstract: Language – a unit of measure for human relationships, values and mentalities. This is valid both for communist Romania, and for USA. Coming from a country where the communist dictatorship seemed to rule forever and the sole salvation were the words, language, fabrications, where words were incapable of changing the people’s destiny but kept the people sane, where time had no meaning and no value, the author (living now in the US) registers various layers of language and their significance in the US culture,
