Summary/Abstract: in the present work, the author aims to present the nominal group in Dosoftei’s work Psalter in Verses, focusing on the adjectival attribute as an adjunct. The nominal group will be understood as the component part of the statement organised around a centre with the morphological value of a noun, pronoun or numeral, to which are added all the terms semantically and syntactically dependent on it, known as adjuncts. The paper will adopt two perspectives: a traditional and a modern one. From the perspective of traditional grammar, the typical syntactic function within the nominal group is that of an attribute, classified according to the part of speech through which it is expressed and the means of marking the dependency relation. If it is realised prototypically by a variable adjective, its main characteristic is that it has the quality of agreeing in gender, number and case with its nominal centre. From a modern perspective, however, the syntactic position of the attribute in traditional grammar, which is considered unrepresentative in order to reflect syntactic hierarchies, is abandoned within the nominal group. It will be replaced by five others, introduced in the Basic Grammar of the Romanian language– the determiner, the quantifier, the modifier, the possessor and the complement. The determiner occupies the most important syntactic position within the nominal group, having the function of enunciative integration and individuation of the referent of the noun. The quantifier quantitatively specifies the referent designated by the head noun, indicating a definite or indefinite quantity. The modifier participates semantically in specifying the referent of the noun phrase. The possessor establishes a possessive relation with a term expressing the possessed object. The complement occurs alongside postverbal, postadjectival and relational nouns. Comparing the five syntactic functions with that of the attribute in traditional grammar, it can be seen that the adjectival attribute corresponds toa determiner, a quantifier, a modifier, a possessor or a complement. In the discussion of the corpus, both syntactic patterns consisting of a centre and a single adjunct and those consisting of a centre and two or more adjuncts will be commented on. Within these, the topology of subordinators in relation to the regent will also be considered, looking at which components are antecedent and which are postponed to the centre. In this respect, the author will use statistical analysis as a method. The examination of the investigative corpus will reflect the complex possibilities of structuring the nominal group, illustrating the diversity of syntactic constructions in Old Romanian.
