Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present one of the least known moments of Ivan Drasov`s biography – his activities on the eve of the Liberation of Bulgaria. Through analysis and comparison of various sources, the following circumstances were established – 1) In the first months of 1877, after the failure of Constantinople ambassadorial conference, Ivan Drasov and some other Bulgarians began preparations for the formation of an armed squard detachment to be transferred to Bulgaria. 2) After the beginning of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877 – 1878, Ivan Drasov put himself in the service of the Russian army and participated in the establishment of a pigeon post between the cities of Zimnich and Svishtov. With the help of this post, the troops of Emperor Alexander II received very valuable information about the disposition of Ottoman forces. 3) The trust of the Russian military command, which Ivan Drasov gained during his participation in the Zimnich – Svishtov pigeon post, helped his election as the chairman of the first City Management Council in Lovech.
