Summary/Abstract: The 1945 – 1947 period was decisive for the future of the British mandate in Palestine. Since the 1930s, the region has been turbulent, with both Arabs and Jews seeking British favor for supremacy over the other. After the Second World War, however, due to severe economic problems, Britain was unable to handle the Palestine situation alone. The Labour government attempted to involve the US in the Middle East, but after Washington hesitated, London turned to the UN, making it an international issue.
