Summary/Abstract: From the earliest times the development of fine arts has been accompanied byvarious innovations and inventions related to the technical progress. With the invention of photography and its subsequent interaction with the visual arts, the creative potential of this process became more and more tangible. This study examines that phenomenon and the significant conceptual changes it leads to. Changes that are clearly set by the Bauhaus to Pop Art, and then by the subsequent artistic practices of archivalism and Appropriation art. In these movements and practices, the integration of photography in the visual arts as an associative resource is essential for the formation of the contemporary visual art. Photography as a resource that also explores the problematic social identity, the loss and preservation of the historical memory, as well as the change of context in borrowing a photographic image.
