Summary/Abstract: The present study concerns the letters of the composer Georges Bizet (1838 – 1875) to his librettist Ernest Giraud (1837 – 1892). He is known for writing the traditional orchestral recitatives for the opera Carmen, the original version of which had spoken dialogue. The author of the study is a leading performer of the role of Don Jose from the opera „Carmen“ in Bulgaria, and repeatedly presents it on the concert podium, singing premieres in Italy, Portugal, Palma de Mallorca, Belgium, the Netherlands and many others. etc. From this position, the research interest is directed towards examining the letters in the context of the composer‘s entire work. They show reflections from the kitchen and illustrate the closeness of the Bizet-Girot creative tandem. The Author‘s goal is to translate and popularize the below unpublished letters of Bizet to provoke ideas that will be useful both for researchers of Bizet‘s work and personality, as well as for his interpreters – stage directors and performers.
