Summary/Abstract: The article examines the vocal cycle „The Gray Songs” („Сhansons grises”) by Paul Verlaine verses by Reinaldo Hahn (1875 - 1947) - a French composer, pianist, music critic, conductor, one of the most prominent representatives of Bel Epoc ( Belle Époque). Through the analysis of the form and structure of the individual parts, the general compositional principles of the construction of the whole cycle, which embodies the most characteristic for the vocal style of Reinaldo Hahn features, are deduced. The research is part of the doctoral thesis of the author on the theme song „The vocal creativity of Reinaldo Hahn and the application of the French phonetic transcription in interpretation in French, at the expense of the practical transcription and transliteration in Bulgarian language”.
