Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses how certainty is formed in conformity with the Lacanian theory from the 1950s. It focuses mainly on the phenomenon of being-addressed which, it argues, lies at the heart of psychotic certainty. A number of clinical examples are given from clinical praxis. They bring forth the key theoretical element upon which certainty is based: an indecipherable element which results from an encounter with a void. The paper describes how certainty is a secondary phenomenon built around a moment of disturbance in the life of a subject. As a counterpart to this development, the author compares psychotic certainty with the Heideggerian concept of Ruf and the phenomenon of Vocation and Revocation in the work of Giorgio Agamben.
