NICOLAE MOLDOVEANU: A PORTRAIT

Summary/Abstract: A prominent personality of the Christian communities in Romania, Nicolae Moldoveanu was a Christian composer, poet and writer of great spiritual value, whose influence is brought in the musical repertoire of the Orthodox Church but also in the Romanian evangelical environment. With the migration of many Romanians to the West, the Christian hymns composed by Nicolae Moldoveanu, some of them during the years of detention in communist prisons, were transmitted to the young generation both in the country and in the diaspora, which did not know the dimension of spiritual and physical suffering under a totalitarian regime. The universe of his creation is addressed to various choral and instrumental formations, even brass ensembles, but also solo voices and children’s choirs.
