Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to indicate the areas of the European Union’s environmental policy, posing thegreatest challenge for the Visegrad Group countries (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary – V4)during the 20 years of their membership in the EU. For this purpose, the accession documents andinfringement proceedings initiated by the European Commission against these countries in relationto legal acts in the field of environmental protection were analysed. In the study, the desk researchas well as document and statistical analysis methods were used. The conducted research revealedthat, despite a similar past and the shaping of environmental policy under the influence of EU policy,V4 countries differ in terms of the importance of individual environmental problems. This may be anadditional factor limiting their cooperation in the discussed area.
