Summary/Abstract: The objective of this piece of research is to study reformulation markers in a corpus of oral interaction in dyads between native and non-native speakers of French in contrastive terms. Identifying the differences in the use of reformulation markers will shed light on the attitudes to some important phenomena in oral communication like precision, explanation, description, enumeration, exemplification, disambiguation, etc. The methodological approach is syntagmatic in that it attempts to detect a link between two statements which underlie the act of reformulation. The results of the analysis show a pronounced tendency among native speakers to reformulate, and a less noticeable one among non-natives. The disparities appear at the level of the devices used, their frequency and appropriateness. The recommendation is to emphasize on the usefulness of the reformulation devices.
