Summary/Abstract: The authors of this paper explore Herodotus’ contribution to the comprehension of justice among the Hellenes, which, according to them, can be evaluated on two levels. Firstly, it is the terminological inventiveness that arose with the appearance of the word dikaiosyne and the peculiar use of dike in juridical formulations. From another perspective, all significant modalities of justice are mentioned in four different books of the Histories, i.e., it is hinted at as so-called cosmic, legal, and individual justice. Regardless of which of the mentioned modes is in question, the consideration of justice in the “Father of History” is related to determining its substantial characteristics, equivalence, and correlation. Herodotus himself, probably due to his pro-democratic inclination, particularly connects justice and legality and emphasises the arithmetic form of equality; more precisely, he will highlight isonomy, isegory, and isocracy.
