Summary/Abstract: The study examines the value structure of three recently published Hungarian novels, Andrea Tompa’s Haza [Home] (2020), János Háy’s Mamikám [Mommy] (2021) and Péter Nádas’ Rémtörténetek [Horror stories] (2022), through the analysis of the narrative positions observed in them. The novels present the fate of ordinary people from the period of communism and the post-regime era. The latter two works emphasise the hopeless situation of those experiencing various degrees of vulnerability through internal focalisation, with Háy’s whole text being a communicated speech, while Tompa’s work is a third-person stream-of-consciousness narrative with a mixed, simultaneous and interposed focus, providing a broader panorama.
