Shkup - An Important Albanian Center Of The 19th And 20th Centuries

Summary/Abstract: Shkup was considered one of the main Albanian cities of the four Vilayets, namely, the vilayets of Shkodra, Kosova, Manastir and Janina, with a clear ethnic composition. This opinion was shared also by several European travelers and diplomats of the 19th century who in their works present significant maps, ethnographic documents and statistical data. In the Ottoman registers of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, but also in the official registration of the population in 1921 in Yugoslavia, Shkup is considered an ethnically Albanian region.
