Summary/Abstract: This article is dedicated to Hartmann’s stratification theory, which he develops within his aesthetics. The first part of the article discusses Hartmann’s idea about the two strata structure of the aesthetic object, consisting of its foreground and background. In the second part of the paper, an initial comparative analysis of the aesthetic objects of fine arts, poetry, music and architecture is carried out based on his thesis about the relationship of appearance of the background in the sensory foreground. The last part of the paper is dedicated to the reconstruction and interpretation of Hartmann’s more detailed scheme of primarily background layers of the aesthetic object, and further analysis in which this scheme is applied to the arts.
