Summary/Abstract: The information about Bessarabia and the Bessarabian Bulgarians in the Bulgarian press has not been systematically studied yet. The present article attempts to shed some light on this area by examining newspaper articles from the period 1989–1993 – a turbulent period for the Bulgarian diaspora in Bessarabia, associated with the collapse of the former Soviet Union and the simultaneous resumption of ties between the diaspora and the parent state. In particular, the subject of analysis are two local history collections with newspaper articles from the specified period - the collection of Danail Bekyarov, kept in the State Archive – Dobrich and the collection of Ivan Bozhkov, kept in SA – Varna. Although they contain only a part of what was published in the Bulgarian national press and in the regional Dobrich and Varna presses, the two collections provide valuable information about the topics and problems discussed in such publications and are evidence of the increased interest of the Bulgarian society in the way of life, the problems and needs of the Bessarabian Bulgarians in the considered period.
