Summary/Abstract: Speech-narrative genres are among the most widespread forms of prose literature in the late eighteenth century. Sermons from the period of national aweking is a remarkable manifestation of the literary programme of priests who are recorded as leading literary creators in the history of Slovak literature. Priest-writers Juraj Fándly, Jonáš Záborský, František V. Sasinek and Jozef M. Hurban speak in their sermons about the religious and cultural-social significance of the Byzantine mission operating in Great Moravia in the years 863–885.
